The Cleveland Museum of Art Must See Free Museum In Cleveland

The Cleveland Museum Of Art was founded in 1913 in the Wade Park District of Cleveland Ohio near university circle.  The  Cleveland Museum Of Art is the fourth wealthiest art museum in the United States. It was founded on trust money from a group of prominent Cleveland Industrialists. Originally the building consisted of a neoclassical, white Georgian Marble, Beaux-Arts building that’s facade is still one of the most prominent parts of the museum.

Neoclassical, Georgian Marble, Beaux-Arts building & New Courtyard Addition

Additions were added to the building in 1958, 1971 and 1983.  The addition built in 1971, a two-toned granite facade designed by modernist architect Marcel Breuer is the only one of those additions that still stands today. The 1958 & 1983 additions were later torn down in the 2000s to make way for a 592,000 square foot east & west wing that wraps around the building and features a stunning courtyard that was completed in 2013.

Collections in The Cleveland Museum of Art include historic art of different cultures from around the globe, including some pieces that date all the way back to 250 B.C.

The best part?

The Cleveland Museum of art is completely free, making it a must-see for anyone visiting the city of Cleveland. The exhibits are always changing so you will never run out of things to see in the museum. Not to mention it is a great escape from the cold winter in Northeast Ohio.

Things to know before your visit:

There is an extra charge for some special exhibits but you don’t have to get tickets for those if you don’t want to. During my last visit the Jazz Age exhibit was going on and it was $12.00 for an adult ticket.

You can park at a meter on the street that is $2.00 for 2 hours but make sure you keep a timer for the meter on your phone, with so much to see its easy to lose track of time in the museum.

There is a parking garage located at the museum that costs $10.00
