Affelder Falls is a hidden gem in Ohio that was not always so easily accessible, as it would formerly require hiking off-trail and upstream from the Affelder House. In 2016, the Geauga Parks system constructed a quarter-mile long waterfall trail, which conveniently connected the Affelder House to the Affelder Link Trail, passing directly over the falls.
The Marblehead lighthouse was built in 1821 by William Kelly. The lighthouse took 11 weeks to build with the help of 2 other workers. The first lighthouse keeper was Benajah Wolcott. After Benajah, the lighthouse was kept by Ida Lewis – the first female lighthouse keeper in the United States. The lighthouse has had sixteen keepers in all. The US Coastguard is now responsible for the maintenance of the beacon.
